Hand made in Greece, these coffee/spice mills were adapted from Greek coffee mills that were originally used by the Greek army for use in the field several hundred years ago. Their unique grinding mechanism has been designed to actually grind the pepper rather than smash it, which is how mass marketed mills operate, thus maximizing the flavor and aroma.
